Panelled parquet with dark inlay
A living room and hall of close to a hundred square metres. The client wanted the palace-parquet look, but a quiet version of it, hence oak panels outlined with dark inlay.

A panelled layout looks simple and is difficult to lay. Every intersection has to land within a millimetre, because the error builds up along the length of the room. We worked outwards from the centreline of the living room in both directions, so that the cuts came out symmetrical at either wall.
The oak came from our own kiln and sat in the client’s house for two weeks before laying, to bring its moisture content in line with the room. Finished throughout in semi-matt lacquer.

The panelled layout runs through the whole living room, unbroken at the thresholds.
Every panel intersection is closed with a square of exotic timber.
The border is set away from the wall, so the pattern is not lost under the furniture.
