French herringbone is cut at an angle, so there is noticeably more waste than with plain block parquet. In return, the layout copes better with out-of-square walls, because the pattern is not referenced to any of them.
Once laid, the floor was sanded and given three coats of high-gloss lacquer. That is what the client wanted.
